People who organise family Christmas events obviously don’t have to explain to their small children where Santa’s reindeer are. After a family day last Christmas at the local aero club I was found myself trying to come up with a good reason for Santa not arriving in a sleigh towed by reindeer. Whilst Santa arriving in a beautiful Boeing Stearman was met with much excitement, his non-traditional mode of transport did not go unnoticed. Fortunately a three year old will happily accept the explanation that the reindeer were back at the North Pole having a rest prior to their long journey around the world. Having small children certainly develops the ability to rapidly come up with vaguely plausible (to a small child anyway) excuses for some rather unusual questions.
